Ogden City Corporation recruits year round for the position of Police Officer.  Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, possess, or the ability to obtain by time of written testing, the National Peace Officer Selection Certificate.  Possession of a P.O.S.T. Category I or II Certification or an associates degree with the emphasis in law enforcement with a minor that would enhance the officer’s social awareness is desired.  Testing is conducted when needed and applicants are notified by mail or electronically.  We hire approximately 5 to 10 applicants per year.

Ogden City Police Officers work 10 hour days, 40 hours per week.  There are six shifts that cover the city 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  Police Officers respond to everything from serious felony assaults to citizen assists and traffic enforcement to keeping the peace.  Police Officers undergo continual training to refresh their skills.  There are also opportunities to advance.

Candidates who successfully complete a written test, oral interview, behavioral assessment and physical agility test are placed on an eligibility list which is valid for one year.  As openings occur, names are pulled off the list for consideration for employment.  Newly hired Police Officers must complete a probationary period.

Starting salary is $16.79 per hour.  Ogden City Police Officers participate in the Utah Retirement Systems and may retire at 50% of their final average salary at twenty years of service and 2% for each year after that up to 30 years.

UTAH STATE POLICE OFFICE STANDARDS & TRAINING ENTRANCE LEVEL TEST

In January 1997, the POST Council directed the POST Staff to develop a process that would assure that individuals entering law enforcement had adequate reading, writing and mathematical skills.  Therefore, upon the direction of POST Council, and effective January 1997, anyone applying for the academy must pass an entrance exam.

The entrance exam is administered by the agencies listed below.  Scoring is provided through Stanard & Associates, Inc., in order to maintain the integrity of the exam and allow POST a means to verify the completion of the testing requirement.

The exam may be taken at any of the following testing sites.  The test takes approximately 1 ½ hours.  A fee may be assessed and picture identification is necessary.  The results are mailed to you approximately 2 (two) weeks from the test date.  Below are the approved testing sites (please visit http://publicsafety.utah.gov/post/ for most up to date information):
