Must be willing to work all shifts.
Knowledge of: Various breeds of dogs, cats and other domestic animals; basic techniques of animal control.
Ability to: Learn, interpret and apply laws and regulations of the City related to animal control; perform a variety of animal control activities; learn and utilize proper handling and muzzling techniques; administer animal vaccinations; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; maintain physical conditions appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, subduing resisting animals, chasing fleeing animals, running, walking, crouching or crawling; operating assigned equipment; maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations; communicating with others, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment.
Essential Functions: Receives general direction from the Animal Services Manager. Clean, disinfect and sterilize animal shelter rooms, buildings, kennels, holding areas and grounds; clean and replenish food and water bowls; clean, disinfect and sterilize the shelter's public bathrooms; replace towels and toilet paper; vaccinate animals to be placed in the shelter's adoption center; load and unload the trailer; store supplies; perform minor plumbing, electrical or mechanical repairs on shelter grounds and equipment; operate a blower, shovel snow from shelter walkways; recognize animal health problems and bring them to the Manager's attention; cut and remove weeds surrounding shelter grounds; may be required to work weekends and holidays as assigned. Work with public; enter data to maintain records. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
